Upcoming Management Changes for the Side-Winders-On-Two
Radio Club
From Art Jackson - KA5DWI, SWOT Chairman
After thirty years of loyal service to our organization, Howard
Hallman WD5DJT has requested that it is time to turn over the duties of
Secretary /Treasurer for our club to someone else. Howard has served about all
of his time with this organization in this capacity. In addition, he virtually
ran the club by himself for many years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Howard
that he kept this club from shutting down until a number of other members
jumped in to help it out in 2001.
As chairman, I have accepted Howard’s decision and began
working with other key members of the club for to the best solution to replace
him. After confiding with these key members, it has been decided and
agreed amongst all of us that I will assume the role of Secretary/Treasurer for
SWOT. For that reason, it is now time to make additional changes within the
organization.
Obviously, I cannot and will not handle to the job of
Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer. With significant changes in my personal life,
I had been seeking my replacement for Chairman. So with help of several SWOT
members, a new structure to the club will be formed to better improve the
management and organization of the club.
An Executive Committee approach will be used in the
near future. As of today, the members of the SWOT Executive Committee are as
follows:
Myself, Art Jackson - KA5DWI, North Richland Hills,
Texas, SWOT# 2497, Former Chairman, Bulletin Editor and new Secretary/Treasurer
Jim McMasters – KM5PO,
Larry Hogue – W6OMF,
Most important, we needed someone to head the committee and
we have selected:
Jimmy Johnson – KD5ZVE,
I have also asked Tom Childers, N5GE SWOT# 3537, to
assist us in eventually taking over the reigns as Webmaster for the SWOT
Homepage. I inherited the job when John Petersen-KM5ES passed away last year. I
have enjoyed doing it, but it was interfering with other responsibilities.
I have asked Howard Hallman, WD5DJT to assist us in
an advisory capacity on the committee until such time he wishes to no longer
serve in that role. Besides producing and sending out the Bulletin, he
maintains the financial and membership records, and all the historical records
the club has. It will take time to transfer this information over to me.
In the next few weeks, I will begin the process of taking
over the functions that Howard has been performing these many years. I
will be done as quickly as possible, but one step at a time. I will announce to
the committee and membership as I acquire and start performing each task.
I will continue an active role in visiting Hamfests and putting on presentations about 2-Meter
Sideband operations. We will once again be at Ham-Com June 13-14 in the
indoor flea-market area. Look for another Friday dinner gathering at a
local restaurant.
Jim, KM5PO will arrange teleconference meetings of the
committee soon. We will probably record them so that the club membership
can listen in. In the future, we will also consider the application of
new executive members.
Thank you all for your support of this organization and to
the enjoyment of this hobby.
More to come later
on….
